Events in Manchester
With two universities in the city you can be sure that Manchester is renowned for its music and festival scene. Some of the annual events taking place in and around the city include:
The Beer and Cider Festival
In January each year. A sure-fire hit for anyone who enjoys a tipple.
The Irish Festival
A 15 day celebration of all things Irish which takes place prior to St Patrick's Day each year and is the largest Irish Festival in Europe outside of Ireland, featuring music, comedy, literature and much more.
The local Ramsbottom Chocolate Festival
Which is held in March and is a great outings for kids.
The Arts Festival
Is also held in April. It's an 11 day extravaganza of all things artistic and offers more than 60 live performances.
Parklife
Is the city's biggest music festival and takes place across two days in June each year in Heaton Park, which is a Grade Two Listed Park on the English Heritage Register of Parks and there are nine listed structures in the park.
The Fringe Festival
Which takes place towards the end of June and features all that's great about alternative entertainments.
The local Caribbean Carnival
Which takes place on the second weekend in August with a carnival procession through the streets.
The Food and Drink Festival
That takes over large parts of the city in September and October and giving you the opportunity to sample a wide range of local and international dishes.
The Animation Festival
Which takes place in November each year.
