Events in Hanoi throughout the year
Vietnam International Film Festival (October)
Vietnam's first international film festival was held in October 2010 as part of the festivities celebrating the capital's 1000th birthday. During each October since, the city hosts the Vietnam International Film Festival. The festival will take place again in October 2017 (date to be confirmed), with Vietnamese, South East Asian and world cinema of all varieties, as well as competitions for short films, documentaries and feature films.
International Circus Festival (August)
In August the city will welcome circus performers of all varieties including trapeze artists, clowns and jugglers, as well as their circus animals, during the International Circus Festival. Having travelled through other top destinations including China and Laos, the circus arrives here with performers competing against each other and being judged on their performances by a renowned international panel. The festival will take place at the Central Circus Theatre.
As with many capital cities around the globe, the city hosts incredible celebrations to celebrate the New Year. Seven days before Vietnamese New Year, offerings are made and homes become ornate with kumquat trees or peach blossom branches, culminating in flamboyant celebrations and firework displays as the clock strikes midnight on New Year's Eve
